Porcelain veneers (laminates) represent a thin layer of material (porcelain) that is placed on the front surface of the teeth, allowing the color and / or shape and size of the tooth, to be changed. Because of their minimal thickness, the tooth substance is maximally saved.
Porcelain veneers are used:
– to cover the surfaces of the painted teeth, where whitening is not possible;
– for closing the spaces between the teeth;
– for correction of the shape and length of the teeth;
– to improve the appearance of damaged teeth by decay (caries) or trauma.
The procedure takes place in two phases. The first phase (visit) starts with taking pictures of the initial condition of the teeth, taking a mold before preparing the teeth for making a studio model and discussion with the patient about his/her desire and conception. After this, follows the removal of a small part of the tooth enamel and taking a second imprint. In the second phase, after testing the veneers in the patient’s mouth, determining that they are well placed and that the color is appropriate, the veneers are cemented permanently in the patient’s mouth.
In our dental office for the production of porcelain veneers, we use the world famous IPS e-max system of Ivoclar.
